Hebrews 12:25 Be Careful Not To Refuse God’s Word

See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? Hebrews 12:25

The majority of people around the world know that when someone of authority speaks they must listen. By listening it means they must obey what was said.

Any time someone chooses to not listen to the one in authority, there are consequences to be paid. The higher the authority, the greater the consequence.

After comparing Jesus to Moses, the author states that they best not refuse Him as He speaks from heaven. If they refuse the words of Jesus, they will be punished just as the Israelites when they rejected Moses.

It is easy to read and hear God’s word and not do anything about it. No one can physically see God standing before them enforcing His words. Many act as though God does not see them or will not do anything about it.

Although God does not always immediately punish a person for refusing His words, He does see and the punishment will come. God’s punishment of sin may come in this life, or in the end when Jesus returns. Current punishment is only temporary, after death it is eternal.

No one can escape the punishment, unless the sin is removed by faith in Jesus.

Through His word, the Bible, God has chosen to tell everyone what He expects. He also speaks through His Holy Spirit into the lives of everyone who will listen.

God will not force a person to listen and obey, but there will always be a consequence to pay. Either the consequence is blessing or punishment, depending upon how the person accepts or refuses His word.

Every day God will speak into your life, either by His word, through another person, or by His Holy Spirit. You have a choice to make as to whether you will accept His word to you when He speaks or not.

There is nothing that God will tell you that is not for your benefit, to build you up into the image of Jesus. Instead of refusing what He has to say, accept it, trusting Him and knowing that He will only speak what is right and perfect for you.

Are you turning away from God or are you listening to Him?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the word God has for you each day; that you will obey God’s word to you; that you will trust God in every area of your life; and that you will live for God.
