Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. Ephesians 1:12
Things occur to people everyday that don’t always appear to make any sense. Trouble arises in the lives of people and they struggle to understand why it happens to them. This is especially troublesome when those around them appear to be having everything going well for them.
People are always searching for purpose for their lives and what is happening to them. Usually when bad things occur, they will blame God and others for it.
While Paul is in prison he writes this letter to the Ephesians telling them that what has happened to him is helping to advance the gospel message.
Just as the world struggles with understanding why trouble occurs in their lives, many believers also struggle with it. It is commonly, though mistakenly, thought by many believers that as a believer life should be without problems or struggles. This is a false belief that is carried on by the world.
First, Jesus promised that His followers would have trouble. Second, troubles are often what can move the gospel message forward.
If a person never has any troubles, he does not learn how God can work in and through them, thus does not have a testimony to tell the world of God’s abilities. Often a trouble will move a person in a different direction. This allows him to see new and different people and with a new message.
Everyone in the world needs to hear the gospel message. If a believer never moves in a new direction, he does not bring that message to new people.
The Roman soldiers needed to hear the gospel message, so Paul was put in prison to do that. God will bring a believer through trouble, so that others may hear about Jesus in a new way.
You will have struggles in your life. Rather than getting angry about the troubles, seek God as to how to use those troubles to spread the gospel message about Jesus.
Notice how God takes care of you as you go through a struggle, then tell others about it. Realize the new people God may put in your path as you struggle that need to hear about Jesus. Use those opportunities to be a witness of God’s power, provision, love and grace.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will see God working in all areas of your life; that God will show you ways to use troubles to spread the gospel message; and that many people will come to Jesus through your message.
