2 Corinthians 4:16 Don’t Lose Heart

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

Each and every day a person is living, he is getting older and older. One of the things the always comes with getting older is that the body begins to break down and slow down. The vision, hearing, energy, speed, and memory begin to go, little by little.

What one was able to do, he is no longer able to do or do as well. It is a discouraging and often makes people feel hopeless as their body slowly wastes away.

Paul had just talked about many struggles in life, but says that he does not lose heart. His body is wasting away on the outside, but inwardly he is being renewed day by day.

As people age and their bodies break down, many begin to get angry and go into despair. Their frustration levels go up without being able to do what they used to be able to do. At the same times some are frustrated and hopeless, others are thriving, despite their body breaking down on the outside.

Both believers and non-believers will experience their outer body breaking down over time. The difference between the two can only be seen on what is inside of them.

God’s Spirit is inside the believer, renewing his spirit every day. The believer can see what God is doing and what is coming up ahead some day–perfect, eternal life with a perfect, eternal body in heaven some day. This gives one a hope, joy and renewal that keeps him going, despite the outer body slowing down.

Following Jesus gives one a hope that the world cannot see, nor understand during times of trouble, suffering and pain. It is an inner renewal from God.

You are aging, just like everyone else is, and your body is probably starting to break down outwardly in different ways. Do not lose heart and get frustrated, but allow God’s Holy Spirit to renew you on the inside.

Look at the future hope that Jesus has given you and take great joy in that. Know and understand the joy, peace, comfort, strength and much more that God is giving you, that your broken body and this fallen world cannot offer.

Rejoice today for what God is doing in you and through you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; that you will know the changes God is working in your life; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to renew your inner spirit; and that you will fix your eyes on what God has ahead of you, not on this fallen world.
