John 2:5 Do What He Says

His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” John 2:5

In the military and in many businesses, there are people who are to be obeyed, almost regardless of what they say. Overall they will tell others what to do that is right and legal and are expected to be obeyed without question.

The reason for obeying them is that they have the authority to tell other what to do and because they can see the bigger picture of what is going on. When people obey them, the results are most often much better.

Jesus was at a wedding that was having some problems. His mother tells the servants to do whatever Jesus tells them to do.

Workers on the bottom of the leadership pole hear many guidelines or commands as to what they are to do. Sometimes those commands do not make any sense, in fact, they look and sound disastrous, yet they are to be obeyed. God works in the same way with those who follow Him.

There are times when God tells His people to do things that do not make sense: speak to a rock to get water, march around a city silently to take it down, serve water as though it was wine, or go to a cross and die to save others.

Since Jesus walked on the earth, God has not changed. He still asks His followers to do things that do not make sense in the common, sinful mind. He still expects those who believe in Jesus to obey completely, without question or hesitation.

Even when things do not make sense to a person, God is in control and knows what He is doing. God does a great job at working out things in the bigger picture with His miraculous intervention.

As you walk with God, there will be times when He will ask you to do something that appears to be insane. Instead of questioning it or rejecting His word, do it.

Step out in faith and do what He says to do and see how He works it out in the end. God can and is willing to do great and mighty things through you, if you will allow Him too.

Do not be afraid, but know that God never fails. He can pull off the impossible through you, if you just obey Him.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear what God is telling you to do; that you will obey God’s every word to you; that you will not question what God says; and that you will trust God with your whole life.
