Luke 20:20 Spies Among Us

Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor. Luke 20:20

It is common for nations and major businesses to have spies. They use the spies to seek out information on their enemy. The information gained is used against their enemies or competition to overcome them.

Those who work as spies pretend to be sincere and someone that they are not. Their overall goal is to find weaknesses and faults so that they may win the power.

As Jesus was speaking, the teachers of the law sent spies trying to catch Jesus in something false or bad. This was done to get him locked up or killed by the authorities.

Although the world does not always call them ‘spies’, there are spies sent by the world among believers all the time. People attend some churches just for the sole purpose to find something wrong with the believers.

In many nations, where Christianity is illegal, there are people sent in as spies to home churches to try to find out who is a believer and what they are doing. They appear to be sincere about wanting to follow Jesus, but then once they get their needed information, they turn and people are jailed or killed.

Other nations, like America, has people who come in to find faults against them, to prove Christianity is ‘bad’.

Every believer must live his life in such a way that the world will see that he is true to God and His word. Outside of following God’s word, the believer should never do anything against the law of his land. He should never give the spies something to hold against him.

People are watching you as a believer. Some are trying to see if you really are who you say you are. Others are trying to trap you in your words or actions.

Walk your life in such a way that you honor God in all that you say and do. Let there never be an occasion in which the world can hold something against you. Allow the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and guidance, so that you will not be tripped up by the crafty words of the world.

The world is out to stop you, don’t let them.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you; that God will reveal to you the spies in this world; that you will walk and talk as Jesus did; and that the world will not be able to find any thing against God in you.
