He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 8:26
Fear is something that most people have to deal with in their lives. What a person is afraid of can be unlimited number of things.
Often people are afraid of something that is occurring in their lives that they cannot control. This becomes especially true when the thing that is not controlled can be physically dangerous in some way.
No one wants to be injured or hurt in anyway, so they become afraid of something. Jesus and the disciples were in a boat, when a great storm came up, threatening the capsizing of the boat. Out of fear the disciples woke Jesus. He said they were of little faith, then calmed the storm.
Just as many in the world get afraid of events, believers take their eyes off of God and become afraid. They are quick to forget all that God has already done in the past and in their own lives. All that is seen is the immediate danger that is looming right in front of them.
Faith in God requires that one believes what God has said and then acting according to what God has said.
For a person to become a believer in Jesus, he must have some faith that Jesus has risen from the dead and has the power to forgive and save him. If Jesus can raise from the dead, then He has the ability to do anything. To deny that Jesus can meet a need in one’s life, is to deny that He rose from the dead.
When a dangerous situation arises, all one has to do is have faith in what God can do, rather than live in fear of the situation.
Think for a moment of all the things God has already done in your life. Take another moment to think about what God has already done in history. If God can do all these things, He can continue to take care of you in every situation.
Instead of living in fear, trust or have faith that God will take care of you in what you may be going through right now.
God may rebuke the winds and calm your storm. Or He may bring you safely through the storm in your life. Either way you will win with God on your side.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know what God can do for you; that you will have faith in God’s abilities; that you will not fear any situation in your life; and that you keep your eyes upon God and not the storms in your life.
