1 John 2:3 Do You Really Know Jesus?

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 1 John 2:3

It is very easy for a person to say that they know someone. All over the world there are many people who claim to know some famous person. In reality people know about a person, but often do not really know the person.

Knowing what a person likes or does, it not fully the same as really knowing the person. It is common to only see the surface of the life of a person and completely miss the inner thoughts going on.

John tells the people that they really know Jesus if they keep His commands.

As with knowing someone famous, people all over the world claim to know Jesus. And in the same way, they know about Jesus, but they do not always really know Him in a personal, intimate way.

Many people can talk about the highlights of the life of Jesus, but struggle to talk about what He really taught. In not knowing what He really taught, they are unable to fully obey Him.

Jesus had said that if one loves Him, he would obey Him. Knowing Jesus is knowing God, which in turn is knowing true, perfect love. Once a person knows true, perfect love, they will not want to go back on it and will be willing to obey that true and perfect love. They will be unwilling to harm that perfect love.

Although many people claim to know Jesus and even go to church, they are unwilling to obey His every command. They want to please themselves and others with the temporary pleasures of sin in this world. They refuse to be His witness.

They don’t obey God, thus do not really know Him. The true believer will know Jesus and strive to obey His every command.

You may claim to know Jesus and may live a good life. Ask yourself if you obey all the commands of God. How willing are you to do whatever God asks of you?

This will reveal if you really know Jesus or not. Instead of living for self and this world, strive to live for God. Obey every command that Jesus has given to the best of your ability. Allow God’s Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen you to do what God has commanded.

Ask yourself if you really know Jesus or not.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will obey all the commands of God; that you will truly love God with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength; that you will know Jesus and His great love for you; and that you will be used by God to build His kingdom.
