Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. Hebrews 3:1
Every person has thoughts all the time about many different things. These thoughts can be about what is currently happening in their lives, in the lives of others, about things that could happen, things that did happen and much more.
Unless a person is dead, his mind is always thinking about something. The things thought about can be uplifting or it can bring a person down.
The author of Hebrews tells all believers to fix their thoughts upon Jesus, who is seen as their apostle and high priest. This is done because of who Jesus is and what He has done.
The majority of the world is thinking about how to make things better for themselves. Their thoughts are on the temporary things of this world and how to please themselves.
Believers are to have a mind that is transformed and changed to one of Christ. His mind was one that had an eternal perspective of life and events. Jesus always focused upon eternal things, rather than the temporary things of this earth.
Everything that is temporary of this earth will fade away and no longer be of any concern to a believer. Rather than worrying about the temporary troubles of this world, one must focus on the eternal souls of people that are dying, the same focus Jesus had.
As the mind of a believer is focused on Jesus and what He desires, the temporary troubles of this world will fade away. The way a believer changes his thoughts is by staying in prayer and in God’s word on a regular basis. He will allow the Holy Spirit to guide and focus all of his thoughts on Jesus, rather than sin and self.
Every day you will have many thoughts that run through your head. You have to choose which thoughts you will entertain.
The world is trying to gain your mind to control you to sin. God is there to help you focus on what really matters for you and for others. Rather than let the world and sin have control of your thoughts, give those thoughts over to God.
Focus on what God is doing and wants you to do. Think on what God has told you in His word and know the life and peace He has for you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to guide your thoughts; that you will think about God’s word to you; that you will think as Jesus thinks; and that all of your thoughts will honor God.
