while evildoers and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13
Over time many people believe that some nations have gotten better in how they do things or think. One group is described as being progressive, in that they are progressing on being better and making life better for people everywhere.
As they are saying things are getting better for people, things also appear to be getting worse. Crime rates continue to go up, while things are supposed to be getting better.
Right after telling Timothy that a believer will be persecuted, Paul tells Timothy that evil and fake people will continue to get worse. They will get worse, because they deceive and are being deceived.
Groups that are saying things are getting better are deceived and being deceived at the same time. When sin is openly allowed and promoted, the world believes that things are getting better. They want people to believe that the more one sins, the better he is.
In many nations around the world, people who are standing up for truth and holiness are being portrayed as evil and haters. The world is deceived into thinking that sin is good and that God is not real. And not only does the world think that way, they also tell others the same.
This deceptive way of thinking is going to get worse and worse. Without God, there is no way that the deceptive ways of the world will improve.
Every believer needs to be alert to the deceptive talk of this world. They do not want to be caught up in the sin and death of this world, but be promoting God’s love and holiness. The believer who does not stay in God’s word, will be deceived into false teachings.
When you hear of teachings by others, you must be quick to check it against God’s word. Seek God’s Holy Spirit to guide you into His truth and holiness, rather into the deceptive ways of this world.
As you stick close to God, you will begin to recognize the deceptive words of this world and flee from all sin. You will be able to speak God’s truth and be ready for the persecution that will come from the evil doers of this world.
Until the day Jesus returns, things on this earth will not get better. However, with God you will be able to survive and thrive in God’s kingdom and truth.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s truth in your life; that God will open your eyes to the deceptive ways of this world; that God will give you strength to withstand the persecution from the world; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to this world.
