Colossians 4:17 Finish The Work To Be Done

Tell Achippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received from the Lord.” Colossians 4:17

It is easy for many people to start a task or job and not complete it. Distractions come along and get people off task.

In the workplace, if a person does not complete a task it will often cost him a job or a promotion.

Outside the workplace, there is seldom a severe consequence of not completing a task. Most tasks outside of a job are personal choice tasks, with no one to hold anyone accountable to the task.

As Paul closes out his letter to the Colossians, he has some words towards specific people. He tells them to tell Archippus to complete the ministry he was given to do.

The church is one of the places where the highest level of volunteer work is done. Very few people are paid anything to do a church ministry. and those who do get paid, often get paid very little for the amount of work to be done.

When a job is a volunteer job, many people do not place a high priority upon it. They can take it or leave it, often not giving their best to complete the job.

God has given every believer some type of job or ministry to do. Over the years one may also change what he does for a ministry. At a minimum, every believer has the ministry to be a witness to the lost.

Instead of only half doing the job or completely stopping, one must continue to work at it until it is completed or God releases the call for that ministry.

God has a purpose for the ministry He has given each believer to do. If that person does not complete the ministry, something will be lacking in the church and the world.

You may already be doing a ministry for God. If not, you must seek what God has for you to do. In whatever ministry God has you working in, do not give up or stop doing what you have been called to do. Finish the work, just as Jesus completed His work when He died upon the cross.

Work in the power and strength of God that has been given you through His Holy Spirit. If you do not complete your task, someone may suffer and the kingdom of God will suffer a loss.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the task God has called you to do; that you will work at the task with the strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit; and that you will complete the task God has given you.
