Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you–unless, of course, you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5
Very few people actually like to take a test. Most are nervous about being able to pass the test, being concerned if they studied enough or actually remember everything that they did study.
Taking a test will often reveal faults, something no one really wants to see or acknowledge. No one wants to be seen as a failure or being short.
Paul tells the people to examine themselves and give themselves a test. It is to see if they are in the faith or not. The results of the test will determine if Jesus is in them or not.
Everyone that claims to be a believer and follower of Jesus wants to think that Christ is in them. It is common for people to be able to talk the talk of being a believer, without doing the actual actions. On the surface they appear to be good Christians, yet, there is a different story on the inside.
On honest exam of one’s self will reveal the true heart. Even though one may go to church and quote the bible, does not mean that he is actually following Jesus.
Many in the church do and claim these things, but also live in open sinful ways, refusing to repent. They choose to not do the things God is calling them to do. Or they do all the right things, but with the wrong heart or motive behind them.
Acting in these ways will cause one to fail the test to determine if he is in the faith or not.
Being in the faith means there will be a change from the heart inside to the actions outside of one’s self.
As you claim to believe in and follow Jesus, examine yourself. Give yourself a test to see where you really stand with God. Ask yourself if you are really obeying Jesus. Or if you really believe in what Jesus did for you.
Do not allow yourself to deceive yourself into thinking you are good with God, when you are not. Your heart and actions will reveal where you really stand with God.
Either you are believing and obeying God, or you are not. Only a test will reveal the truth. Will you pass the test?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will test yourself to know your heart; that you will fully trust in Jesus; that you will obey Jesus with the right heart; and that you will live your life for God.
