Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.” Acts 10:34-35
All over the world there are many people who will show favoritism to certain people. They give extra special treatment to the wealthy, popular, or high position people.
Often this is done to gain favor with someone who can be of a great benefit. Those who show no possible benefit are often ignored or pushed aside.
The Israelites often ignored or looked down upon those who were not of Jewish descent. God shows Peter that He will accept those outside of the Jewish people as long as the fear Him and does what is right.
The world will often say that God will accept anyone and everyone, regardless of what the person does or does not do. While it is true that God will accept everyone and does not show special favoritism towards any certain group, it is not true that there are no requirements.
In order for a person to be accepted by God, forgiven and given salvation, he must fear God and do what is right. The fearing God is putting full trust in God for one’s salvation and provision. It is allowing God to be in absolute control. The ‘doing right’ is living as God calls a person to live.
There are some in the church that will not give people a chance to fear God or obey Him. They show favoritism to those who appear to be good, rather than giving everyone a chance to be saved. In thinking this way, many refuse to be a witness to certain people.
God wants to save all, so every person must be given the opportunity to believe in Him without favoritism.
As a believer there may be times when you have shied away from telling someone about Jesus. You may feel as if there is no way God wants that person because of who he is or what he has done. You show some favoritism towards certain people and prejudice against others.
Realize that Jesus came to die for all and save all. Be willing to give every person a chance to believe in and follow God. God did not show favoritism when He accepted you, do do it towards others.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s love for all people; that you will be a witness of Jesus to every person you meet; that God will draw all people to Him through you; and that you will not show favoritism towards certain people.
