John 17:4 Finish The Work

I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. John 17:4

Leaders or bosses have a mission to do that is larger than themselves. Since it is larger than themselves, they require workers to work underneath them.

Each worker is given a task to do. As each one accomplishes his task to completion, the larger mission is completed and the leader/boss is exalted. He was able to accomplish the greater mission and everyone sees it and praises him for the good work.

The workers make the boss look good or bad, by how well they do their work.

As Jesus was preparing to die, He prayed to His Father some last prayers. He pointed out that He had finished the work He was given to do.

Every company has an overarching goal to accomplish in mind. People are hired that will be able to do the work needed to be done in order to meet that goal. If anyone does not do his part, the goal may not be met.

Just as God the Father had given Jesus a task to do, so Jesus has given every believer a task to do. That task is to be His witness and to make disciples.

The actual work being done by each believer may look different. Some may be working with children or adults, or an certain ethnic group, or some other group. Some may be providing teaching only, while others are meeting physical needs. Some may be full time, being paid to do the work, while others are completely volunteer.

Over all of the work, their goal is the same–to be a witness and to make disciples. It is to build God’s kingdom on this earth. At the end of one’s life he must be able to say that he did what God had told him to do and glorified God.

You have also been given a mission by God. What this looks like is unique to you and only tasked by God Himself.

Each day you must ask yourself if you have done all that God has set before you to do for that day. As long as you have breath on this earth, you will have a work to do for God.

Do not find yourself at the end of your days not having done His work. Keep working and finish the job God has for you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the work God has for you to do; that God will give you the strength to do His work; that you will be His witness; and that you will make disciples.
