John14:21 Obedience Equals Love

Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them. John 14:21

Everyone who is in leadership expects to be obeyed. However, this obedience is often to be done out of duty and respect, having nothing to do with love.

Inside a family the command to be obedient will sometimes be expected out of love, although most often it is still out of respect and pure demand. Most expect obedience out of dictatorial position that one must just obey because of the position.

Jesus had been talking about obeying Him and God. He stated that the one who really loves Him is the one who will obey Him.

Obedience is often seen as a demand or requirement, but rarely seen as a act of true love. Loving God means that one will not want to ever hurt or do anything wrong to Him.

When a person realizes the true love that God has for him, perfect love that will never do harm, he will desire to never hurt God in any way. This means he will never want to do anything, in anyway against God. This is where love and obedience meet together.

The believer who loves God, will thus obey God, not out of fear or duty, but out of love. His love will show up in revealing his trust in God to obey His every command. God gives commands, not to lord it over a person, but out of love to build that person up into the best he can be.

The amount one obeys God reveals how much he truly loves God. The more obedience, the more love. The less obedience, the less love.

As a believer, you most likely express that you love God. Now you must ask yourself how much do you love God and how do you show that love.

Do not be like the world and just say you love, but show it by your obedience. Love God in word and in action. Know that God will never command you to do something that is not the best for you. His love and commands to you are perfect for building you and His kingdom up.

Do you really love God or is your words just words?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s love to you; that you will know what God commands you to do; that you will obey all of God’s commands; and that you will show your love to God in obeying Him.

  1. I love that revelation; it’s powerful. Thank you for sharing; obedience is equal to love. May this motivate us to be obedient, knowing that is our way of showing love and honor to God. Many blessings to you.
