I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you. John 13:15
Great teachers or leaders will always teach and lead by example. They will show the students how to do something by physically doing it, not just telling them how to do it.
Students who really want to learn to be their best will follow the examples of their teachers or leaders. Those who try to reinvent the wheel and do their own thing, when being taught or led, will often fail in the end.
Jesus had just washed the feet of the disciples as a servant to them. Now He tells them that He has set an example of what they should do.
As Jesus walked on the earth, He had taught the disciples many different things. He taught how to be a witness, how to pray, how to have righteous anger, how to be compassionate, how to have faith, how to serve, how to heal, how to resist temptation, how to speak the truth, and many other things. In each of things, Jesus not only taught it, but did it as an example for His believers to follow.
Every believer is still being taught by Jesus today through His word. As a believer learns from Jesus, he must begin to do as Jesus did in every area of his life. Jesus was the perfect example of how man is supposed to live, act and think.
Sadly, many in the church have chosen to stay living as the world does, doing what the world does. They have chosen to not do as Jesus did, feeling as if it is wrong or beneath them to live that way.
One, if he really loves God, is supposed to do as God commands. God only teaches one to do what is best to lead to life.
As a believer look through the scriptures to see how Jesus lived His life. Now make a choice to live in the same way.
Do not let the influences of this world teach you how to live. Do not allow selfish desires to override God’s teaching to you.
Jesus was separate and different from this world. You also are to be separate from this world, different than this world.
Take a moment to examine your life and see if you are doing just as Jesus did. Are your thoughts, actions and words a mirror of how Jesus lived? Or are they a mirror of this world?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know what Jesus taught; that you will think, speak and act as Jesus did; and that your life will be an example of who Jesus is.
