When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. Jonah 3:6
Everywhere a person goes or looks there are warnings. Warnings on the sides of roads, on packages, in the media, and much more. Some of those warnings are of dire consequences that can be immediate. Others are of minor consequences or something that may occur over a longer period of time. Some of these warnings are very unusual and different, while others are more of a common sense warnings.
Every person is different in how well they follow warning signs. Some will follow them wholeheartedly every time, while others ignore them most of the time.
Once Jonah had finally chosen to go to Nineveh and speak God’s word of warning, the king of Nineveh heard it. The king immediately acted upon God’s word in humility. He did not ignore it or dismiss it at all.
Just as people ignore warning signs on packages and the road side, people also often ignore the warnings God has given or is giving. Some people have heard all their lives that Jesus is returning to the point that they are no longer concerned and begin to ignore the warning. They begin to choose to live in sin, ignoring God.
God’s word is true and every warning given will come to pass at some point. The one who truly believes in God will heed every warning that God has given. He will also be willing to pass that warning on to others.
God does not anyone to perish or be punished because of sin. His goal is to give everyone life–eternal life through the forgiveness of Jesus. Believers must act upon this and pass it on to others who need to hear that warning.
If you are a believer, you have read or heard some of God’s warnings. Ask yourself if you are heeding those warnings and if you are passing those onto others.
Do not ignore God’s warnings that He is lovingly giving you through His word, visions, Holy Spirit or others. Act upon them and live for God, obeying His every word.
Be like the king of Nineveh and humbly submit to God’s word and His warnings. God is only trying to give you the best and make you the best you can be. Listen to Him, He knows what is best.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear God’s warnings to you and others; that you will be guided by His Holy Spirit; and that you will live for God in every area of your life.
