Ezekiel 30:1-2 Wail For The Downfall

Dark storm clouds

The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Wail and say, Alas for that day!” For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near–a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations. Ezekiel 30:1-2

There is a lot of rejoicing when there is the downfall of a violent nation or when the enemy falls. People are excited when they see a powerful dictator be destroyed or a powerful dictatorship nation fall. It is seen as a good thing to occur.

Very seldom does anyone weep when the enemy is destroyed or falls. Many actually look forward to it and try to urge the downfall on.

God tells Ezekiel to wail at the coming downfall and destruction of Egypt. God was getting ready to pour out some of His wrath upon Egypt and break them down as a nation.

Although one does not see the destruction of a nation very often in today’s times, there are often the downfall of leaders and dictators. People rejoice when they see a leader that they do not like get removed and hurt at the same time. They want to see bad leaders punished.

When hard times fall upon the enemy, most people are happy for what had occurred. Yet, this is not the way of God. It is not His heart.

God loves all people and all nations. He does not want to see judgement upon any of them, but it must occur. In the process of judgement, there is much wailing and weeping.

When a nation, business or leader falls, there are often innocent people hurt in the process. It is also often a loss of a chance to be saved.

Believers must seek to restore, not destroy. Thus God wants believers to weep and wail over those being hurt and destroyed, even by His judgement.

You may have rejoiced over the downfall of some enemy in your life. Instead of rejoicing, look at that enemy as one whom God loves and cares for. See the person as one who is lost who needs Jesus to save.

Weep for those who are being destroyed. They are people just like you who have not seen the truth or been given a chance to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Give them a chance to accept or reject.

I pray today that you will see people as God sees them; that you will be filled with God’s love for all people; that you will weep at God’s judgement upon your enemies; and that you will seek to be God’s witness to all people.
