I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10
There are many things that people take great joy or delight in. It can be jobs, positions, family, children, friends, things that they have or most anything else.
Most commonly are things that people have or can do. They find their strength in certain things or certain hobbies that can make them happy. Excitement arises when they have those objects or are doing those hobbies.
While these things can be good, they are only temporary. The delight in them usually wears off quickly and they seeking bigger and better things.
Isaiah says that he delights greatly in the Lord and rejoices in God. The reason for this delight and rejoicing is that God has clothed him with righteousness.
Every believer is a person who deserved eternal punishment of death in hell. Yet, God had mercy on him and as forgiven him of all sins. Not only did Jesus forgive the sins, but He also clothed him with righteousness and salvation. There is no more death sentence upon his head.
Taking delight in this is the believer does not take his salvation or Christ’s righteousness for granted. He does not continue to live in sin, but allows his life to be changed and begin to live for God. He finds great joy in living for God, rather than for self and this fallen world.
The true believer will realize how great the salvation is that God has given him and will not seek delight in anything else. The greatest joy will be found in God.
You may find delight in things and abilities in your life, however, what is your greatest delight? What is it that gets you excited and pumped up?
Take a moment to think about what God has done for you and what He has given you. Remember what you deserve and are not getting.
This should cause extreme delight in God’s great love and mercy for you. Find your strength in what God has done for you and rejoice in that.
Give God praise for the salvation and righteousness He has blessed you with. Nothing could be better than that.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will find joy in the salvation Jesus has given you; that you will rejoice in God alone; and that you will live your life for God.
I find it very pompus to assume we are ALL always striving for bigger and better. There are many of us common folks who are very content with God’s will in our life. Maybe even living in a box. I believe if this explanation was worded by not the elite author but a more common soul, the simple message would come across smoother. More humanized with love as the center of the message. We ALL fall short. Thank you!
Sarah, I am sorry that you took my article for saying that EVERYONE is always striving for bigger and better things. I agree not every single person does, although I believe the majority do.
The focus of this post was that we are to take delight in God and the things of God, not the things of this world. Believers are to strive to be more like Jesus every day, rather than being more like the world. This is taking what Jesus has done for us and the Holy Spirit giving us direction and strength to be who God wants us to be and to be the person in Christ we are to be. This can happen even when one falls short and falls into sin for a moment. God is ready to forgive and pick us back up and help us to move forward in His ways, not ours or the world’s ways.
I hope you can understand where I am going with this.
