Psalm 115:1 Not About You

Golden sky

Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. Psalm 115:1

All over the world people are talking about their own accomplishments. Everyone wants to be recognized for what he did. People want the credit and glory for things done.

Receiving the glory for something accomplished is the crowning achievement for many people. Many will quit or get angry when they do not receive the honor for something done. It is even common to see lawsuits drawn up against others because of lack of proper recognition.

This type of attitude is selfishness. It is all about self and no one else. This is even when the action being done is to help other people. People want all the glory for the work being done.

The psalmist tells God that it is not to them but to Him that all the glory is to be given. The reason for God to receive all the glory is because of His great love and faithfulness.

Some believers can easily get caught up in thinking the same way as the world does. They want to receive all the glory and credit for what they have done or accomplished.

The believer who has the correct focus will realize that it is not about him, but about God. It is God who gave him the ability to accomplish something. It is often God who made things possible.

God loves every person with a perfect love and He remains perfectly faithful all the time. With this great love and faithfulness, He will accomplish many great things in and through the individual believer.

Giving God the praise and glory for what is done should be the first focus of every believer. God created everything, including the abilities of the believer, so God should receive all the glory.

Think about the things that God has done in your own life. What things has God accomplished in and through you?

Notice then that it is not about you, but what He has done in and through you. Be careful not to take the glory and praise for what has been accomplished. Point everyone and all the praise and glory to God, the one who did it all.

Selfishness is pride that goes against God. It takes away His glory. Give it all to God, who deserves it all. Show the world who really did the work and allow God to have the glory.

I pray today that you will see what God has done in and through you; that you will know that it is by God’s love and faithfulness that you can do anything; that you will give God the credit for all accomplishments; and that you will be a witness of God’s love to the world.
