The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:7
When something great happens in the life of a person, many will leap for joy. Sometimes this will be a physical leaping, but often it is leaping in the heart. They are excited about what is happening.
First time parents often leap for joy when their first child is born. A teen-ager leaps for joy when he gets his full driver’s license or when he graduates from school. Many will leap for joy when they get the long desired promotion at work or a good report from the doctor.
There are many different things that excite different people for different reasons. What excites one person will do nothing for another.
David saw that God was his strength and shield, so he could trust in Him to help in his time of need. This made his heart leap for joy and for him to break out in a song of praise to God.
Having good news brought to a person is always good, but often that news is just temporary. There is nothing wrong with it, but it is only for a time.
Good news of something eternal and all powerful is better. Nothing can be better than knowing that God is on one’s side and gives him the needed strength and protection. No one or no thing is greater or more powerful than God.
In this life there are many troubles and bad situations in life. It appears as if everything is negative and bad. However, when a believer knows that God is his strength and help, it can cause extreme joy and excitement in his heart. It is knowing that no matter what is happening or will happen, God is with him.
You can also have this extreme joy that David had. Realize and know that God really does love you and is willing to be your strength and shield. Put all of your hope and trust in Him.
Then, when these troubles occur, your heart can still leap for joy because you know that God is on your side and will take care of you. He will not let you go.
Like a little child jumping and shouting for joy, you can jump and shout praises of joy to God for what He is doing in and through you.
Leap for joy today because of what you have in God.
I pray today that you will know God’s love for you; that you will know God’s strength for you; that you will trust in God alone; and that you will know the joy of knowing God.
