Job 31:24 What Is Your Trust In?

If I have put my trust in gold or said to pure gold, ‘You are my security,’ Job 31:24

Money and wealth are major influencers in this world. Money is something that most people seek and want. It does not matter how much or how little someone wants, most people want more than what they have.

In the process of seeking out more money, they strive to get better paying jobs. People dream of the jobs that are six figures or larger. They seek out jobs that have great retirement plans and great investment plans. Everything is focused on getting more money, so that they can get and do more things.

If they don’t have the ‘more money’ than they worry about not having enough or not getting what they ‘need’. They trust in the money to provide for all their needs and wants.

Job says, in this verse, that if he put his trust in gold (money)… Then, in a few more verses Job continues to say that this would be a sin.

While money is helpful, it is not needed. God can provide in other ways if needed. Look at the Israelites traveling through the wilderness. God gave them food, and they did not have to have money to get it.

Believers often take on the view of the world, in that they ‘need’ to make more money. They begin to trust in their jobs and the paycheck, rather than in God and His word.

Jobs come and go. Money comes and goes. But God remains forever. He created the universe out of nothing by His word, He can provide the needs of a person just as easily.

Money is a tool that can be useful, but it is not a necessity, when looked at correctly. Jesus is the only one thing that is necessary in this life. Outside of Him, everything is just bonuses.

Make sure that your focus is upon God, not on self and money. Your job will not be there forever, in fact, you may not have a job tomorrow, but the Creator of the universe, God, will still be there with you. If God can sustain the universe by His word, He can sustain you.

Put your trust in God and not the temporary money of this world. Seek God and do what He tells you to do and trust His provision in the process. He will never fail, where money can and does fail.

I pray today that you will know God’s provision in your life; that you will trust God for everything; that you will obey God in every area of your life; and that you will see the blessings God has given you.
