Then I said: “LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,” Nehemiah 1:5
Knowing who a person is can be very important when one wants to make a request of that person. There has to be an understanding that the person has the ability to fulfill the request.
One does not want to go to a person with a request, that is completely unable to fulfill that request. That person may not be in the right position or have the power to grant the request. Asking him would then be a waste of time and energy.
Nehemiah had a concern, a situation that he wanted to be dealt with. He had a desire to go to Jerusalem and rebuild the city and the temple. He knew that he had to go before the king with the request, the only one who could grant the answer. However, his first step was to go before God with the request.
He recognized that God was a great and awesome God who truly loved His people and would be faithful. God was the only one who truly had the power to grant the desire or to make it happen. Without God on his side, the desire would not occur.
God has not changed since the time of Nehemiah. He is still a great and awesome God who keeps His covenant of love. God loves every person and wants what is best for the person. He is still the one in control and can grant every desire as needed.
There will be times when a believer has a need to be fulfilled. Instead of going to another person first, he must seek God and His favor. Realize that God is the one in control, not a person, company or anything else.
Take a moment today to realize how much God loves you. Remember that Jesus died for you showing how great His love for you is. Now be willing to go before Him with your requests.
As you present your requests to Him, first honor Him with who He is. Recognize God’s greatness and love. Worship God first and foremost, before making a request.
God wants your heart and obedience more than anything else. As you worship Him for who He is, He will be enabled to give you the answers you need.
I pray today that you will know who Jesus is; that you will know God’s great love for you; that you will know God’s great faithfulness; and that you will worship God first before any request.
