
But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the LORD.” 2 Chronicles 18:4
Seeking counsel is common around the world. There are thousands of self-help books to give counseling on how to do anything and everything. Along with the books, there are thousands of counselors out there to give guidance and direction to a person in his life, no matter what the situation is.
There people who give counsel in sports, marriages, school, business, communication, music, and anything else that is out there. Some are free to get their counsel, others cost money.
People are very quick to go to psychics to learn what they are to do next and what will help them. They will seek out friends to get counsel in how to deal with something. Online groups are abundant with people to help counsel each other through bad situations in life.
King Ahab, of Israel, had went to king Jehoshaphat of Judah to get his help in defeating an enemy. Jehoshaphat agreed, but wanted to seek God’s counsel on the situation first.
While it is not a bad thing to seek the counsel and wisdom of other people, they will often fall short in giving the best counsel possible. Many do not have a relationship with God, so they cannot give the perfect counsel of God. What they can give may be good or completely bad, but it is not perfect.
God has always been around. He created everything and sustains everything. He is perfection. With knowing that God can give the perfect counsel in any and every situation that a person may go through.
The first thing that every believer should do when faced with a situation is to seek God’s counsel in it. Find out what God has to say about the situation and how to deal with it.
You, as with any other person on this earth, will have situations in life that you must make a choice as to how to deal with it. Some of these situations will be daily, others will be once in a lifetime, but they are there. While seeking counsel from friends and other believers may bring some good, seek God’s wisdom and counsel first.
Take time to find out what God has to say about your situation. He is there and is waiting for you to ask of Him. God’s love for you is perfect and He will always give the perfect counsel. Find out what it is.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will seek God’s wisdom and counsel daily; that you will act upon God’s word to you; and that you will allow God to guide your every decision in life.
