They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Revelation 12:11
As a whole, most people love life. They may not love the situations that they are in, but they still love life. People want to live a long time and not die. Death, however, is something that the majority of people fear. They fear it even more if it will be a painful death.
People will go to great lengths to avoid any pain or death. Billions of dollars are spent every year on doctors and medications to prevent death. Thousands of people are hooked up to machines in attempt to keep them alive. People do not want to die.
For most people death is feared because they do not really know what is beyond death and they do not want to leave this life on earth.
Believers have an added challenge. The world, the dark spiritual side of the world, does not want the believer to live. They want all believers removed, so they can live as they desire with no guilt.
Since the world does not like believers, many believers will not be the witness they are called to be. They shrink from pain and death.
True believers in Jesus, will not shrink from death, just as the ones in this passage did not shrink from death and Jesus did not fear death. They know what their future holds, regardless of death. They know that death is not the end of life. Since they do not fear death, they will be the witness God has called them to be. They will not fear ridicule or suffering.
You may have pain and suffering in your life, or you may have the threat of pain or death if you are a witness to someone. Do not allow that to stop you from doing what God has called you to do.
Just as Jesus stood strong and true in the face of death, you must also stand strong and true. Do not allow yourself to shrink back from death and not be the witness you are to be. Allow God to use you to reach the people for Jesus. Be the witness.
In the end you will have eternal life, not permanent death. Don’t shrink back today.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the life He has for you; that you will not fear death; and that you will be the witness God wants you to be.
