1 Timothy 6:6 Contentment

But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1 Timothy 6:6

Getting something that someone does not have is what most people want. People are always wanting something more. Billions of dollars are spent every year with people purchasing new things, from small little toys to cars and houses or more.

Billions of dollars are spent by companies advertising things that they have to sell. They tell people that they need those things. People purchase those things because they feel that they need them.

Problems occur, however, when people cannot afford to get those things. They are discontent because they want the item and feel they need it, but cannot get the item. Or they see their neighbor with that item and want it also.

Most people are not content with what they have. John D. Rockefeller once said that a little bit more is the answer to the question “how much money is enough?” At the time he said that, he was the richest person in the world. He was not content with what he has.

Ever since Adam and Eve, people have been discontent with what they have. They are always wanting a little bit more. Eve wanted a little more life than what she had in the garden, so she disobeyed God in trying to get more.

Paul says that one is to live a godly life and be content with what he has. Jesus had said to just pray for what one needs today and not worry about tomorrow. This is a sign of contentment.

God knows what each person needs. Not everyone needs a lot of money or many things or high dollar things. If a person has it, he may reject God in order to play with his new thing.

Every thing that a person has is to help him be closer to God, be more like Jesus or to show Jesus to someone else. He is to strive to be like Jesus and bring others to Jesus.

Take a look at what God has already blessed you with. You have enough. If God desires to give you more, He will, but do not fight for more. Having more may only bring about more problems in life. Trust God for what you need. Don’t trust the things of this world for what you need.

God can give you more peace than the things of this world. Seek Him first.

I pray that you will seek God first in your life; that you will trust God for all of your needs; that you will find contentment in knowing God; that you will not seek contentment in things of this world; and that your life will be like that of Jesus.
