Ephesians 4:1 Live Up To Your Calling

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Ephesians 4:1

In many parts of the world, people who are in certain positions in life are expected to live a certain way. It is most commonly seen in extremely wealthy people. They are expected to dress and act a certain way to be in line with their wealth and position.

There are organizations that have sets of rules on how a person must live his life outside of the group. These rules are set in place because every person a part of the group is a representative of the group. No one is expected to live in a way that gives the group a bad name.

The types of rules will vary from group to group. Not all groups have a written set of rules, since many are just unwritten rules, they are unwritten expectations.

As Paul wrote this letter he was sitting in prison. He could have been bitter and angry about being in prison. He could have given up on God, because he was in prison. Yet, he encourages the people to still live a life worthy of their calling.

Every believer is called to be a witness of God. They are God’s representatives here on this earth to every person that they meet. God’s standards are ones of love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and holiness. The actual standards are ones of perfection, not mediocrity.

Some believers will go to church every week and even know many of the Bible verses and stories, yet, do not live according to what God wants. They are not living a life worthy of God’s calling on their life. They live just as the world does, while claiming to believe in Jesus.

If you have accepted Jesus into your life, you have also been called to higher level of living. The standard is to live just as Jesus lived His life when He walked on this earth. You have been called to be God’s ambassador on this earth.

That is the highest calling a person can ever receive. Nothing is greater than that. You represent the Creator of all the universe.

As God’s representative, how are you living your life? Is it measuring up to the standards God has called you?

Or are you an embarrassment to God, living like the world?

Live up to your calling.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the standards God has for you; that you will be God’s representative on this earth; and that you will live a life worthy to what God has called you to live.
