What does sufficient mean to you? (guest post)

My wonderful wife, Cammie, wrote this little article on the day we had to say goodbye to a very dear man of God.

Ponderings from my heart today as we said goodbye to a dear friend today…

What does Sufficient mean to you? The Bible says that God’s grace is sufficient for us. But do we really know what that means? Webster defines sufficient like this, Sufficient: enough to meet the needs of a situation or a proposed end. That doesn’t sound like a permanent solution to me. To me is sounds like a day by day situation, like in The Lord’s Prayer. Give us this day our daily bread. Sounds like a walk by faith to me. That is so counter-culture though. Aren’t we supposed to have a 5, 10 or 15 year plan? Goals are fine but to be so wrapped up in the plan, that isn’t freedom in Christ. God has it all under control. Trust Him.

I think instead of sufficiency we crave security in tangible things. Things will fade though.
Webster defines security as, : the quality or state of being secure: such as the freedom from fear in any situation. However, if you’re a Christian your security rests in Christ not man. Also counter-culture. God didn’t create us so we could walk securely through life without a thought because then we would not need faith. He created us to love and obey him out of our own free will. To seek His plan. The End. That is our job.

So BE ENCOURAGED whatever you are going through because God’s grace IS sufficient and there in lies your security.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:34

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9
