For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, Romans 9:3
There are people who put their lives on the line in order to save other people. Firemen are willing to go into a burning building, that is extremely dangerous, in order to attempt to save someone. Those that do rescue missions, often place them in harm’s way to save a person. Those in the military walk into dangerous situations to protect someone else.
While there are many that put themselves in danger, very few will purposely get themselves injured or killed in order to save someone else. The injury or death will only occur by accident, not on purpose.
Paul states that he would be willing to be cursed and separated from Christ, if it meant the salvation of his people, the Israelites. To many people, this sounds extreme and crazy. Very few people would want to do something like that.
Yet, that is the very thing that Jesus did for every person on this earth. He came to this earth to be cursed, hung on a cross and separated from God. All of this was so that every person could be saved. It was not an accident that got Him killed on the cross. It was not that the world overpowered Him and captured Him to kill Him. Jesus laid down His life for all people. His love was that great to sacrifice Himself to save others. Jesus had a compassion for people that ran deep.
God does not call every person to physically die in order to save others, as He did with Jesus. Yet, God does call every person to die to self and seek to save others. He wants every believer to get the gospel message out to every person that they can, as fast as they can.
How much compassion do you have for those who do not know Jesus? What are you willing to do, in order to see them come to Jesus?
God may not ask you to die, but He wants you to reach the lost for Jesus. Allow the love and compassion of God for people to fill your life. Make it your life’s goal to reach the lost for Jesus. Be willing to put your life on the line in order to get the message out.
I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that you will know the love God has for all people; that God will give you boldness and strength to spread the gospel message; and that you will have God’s compassion for all people.
