“They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are destestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.” Titus 1:16
Paul is talking about people who claim to know God but in reality are denying Him. He just finished telling Titus to stay away from rebellious people who are false believers teaching false beliefs. Some of these people claim to know God. But Paul says their actions show something very different: that they are detestable, disobedient and unfit. They speak of praising God on Sunday, but on Monday through Saturday curse their fellow worker/boss, cheat on their work by cutting corners, tell “little white lies”, seek revenge on someone, and many other bad things.
If you claim to believe in God, what do your actions show? Yes you may go to church, but what does your life look outside of the church? At home? At work? What are you doing? What are you saying? Do they reflect a love for God? An obedience to God? One who is fit to do good works for God? Or do they reflect the values of the world? Are you disobeying God by not really living for Him?
I pray that today God will reveal to you who you really are. I pray that your actions will match your words and that your words will be showing one who believes in God with all his/her heart, mind, soul and strength. I pray that no one will be able to say that you deny God.
