2 Peter 3:13 What Are You Looking Forward To?

But in keeping with his promise we are looking foward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13

Looking forward to something that is to come is very common among people around the world. Some things that are looked forward to are very soon, within only a few days. Other things are further out. People look forward to days off, vacations, holidays, births, weddings, and more.

As some are looking forward to some good things to occur, many are fearing the future. All they can see is doom and gloom, death and destruction with no hope.

Describing the time of the return of Jesus, Peter tells the people that they look forward to a new heaven and new earth where there is righteousness. This is what was promised.

Watching the news will give a person a depressing vision of what is possibly coming in the future of this world. Crime keeps rising, global warming is destroying the earth, viruses are killing everyone, water shortage, wars, and much more. Seeing all this does not give anyone a sense of any hope at all, but despair.

Believers can often get caught up in this same type of thinking. All they can see is the rise of sin and promotion of sin, or the persecution of believers. Sometimes there appears to be no hope.

However, the believer must remember the words and promises of God. Jesus said He would return to take all His people home with Him for eternity. God has promised that there would be no more sorrow, sickness, or death in heaven.

Holding on to these words and promises of God, will give a believer new hope and strength to keep going forward. Yes, things are bad and getting worse, but there is hope in the end.

You may have some things you are looking forward to and some things that you are dreading that are coming. Do not allow yourself to dwell on the negative things that are coming but focus upon the promise of Jesus to return some day.

Look forward to life in heaven with God for eternity with no pain, suffering, sorrow, hunger, death, or sin. God has not failed in any of His promises to you so far, and He will not fail in any promises yet to be fulfilled to you.

You have a hope of eternal and perfect life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the promises of God; that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; that you will stay strong for God until Jesus returns; and that God will give you visions of hope.
