This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Hebrews 8:10
In every nation around the world there are thousands of laws that the people are expected to follow. While most people try to abide by the laws, many ignore many of the laws.
Those who obey the laws have those laws upon their hearts and minds. They see the value of those laws and desire to be obedient.
Quoting from Jeremiah, the author of Hebrews quotes God saying that in the end He would write the laws upon the hearts and minds, so that they would be His people and He their God.
Often when people hear about the laws of God they run from them. Some run because they see following God’s law as being legalistic and claim grace under Jesus. Others flee because they see the laws as being restrictive, not allowing them to really live.
Every law that God has made was made to make life better for the individual in himself and with others. There is no law that He has made that was made to destroy a person, but to make him holy as He is holy.
Under the old covenant it was either obey all of the law or die. No one could fully obey it, because it was just written words and not on the heart.
In Christ, God now puts the law upon the heart and mind. This is done so that the true believer will strongly desire to obey all of God’s law. God’s Holy Spirit also comes upon him to give him strength to obey God’s law.
It is now a choice of love to obey God’s law, rather than a demand.
As a believer in Jesus, God expects you to grow to become more like Jesus. He followed God’s law with perfection. Learn God’s law and place it in your heart and mind.
Realize that God has given you His law so that you can live a righteous and holy life that Jesus purchased for you. Jesus took away the punishment of breaking God’s law, so that you may live. He then gave you His Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen you to live for God.
Is God’s law on your heart and mind?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s law in your heart and mind; that you will desire to obey God in every area of your life; and that God will be your God and you will be His child.
