So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Romans 14:12
Accountability is something that many people do not like to have to face themselves. It is common for people to love to hold others accountable, but do not like to be held accountable.
Over the years, many different leaders in businesses and politics have fallen, because suddenly someone held them accountable. Things had been done in secret with no accountability for years, until someone found out.
People often believe that things done in secret, behind closed doors, will never be seen or known about.
As Paul tells people to be careful about judging others, he also tells them that every person will have to give an account of themselves before God.
Seeing faults in another person and pointing a finger at them exposing those faults is something easy for many people to do. This is sometimes done in order to help the guilty person see the error of his ways. However, more often than not, it is done to make one’s own self look better. The more faults someone has, the better the other person looks.
The true believer will understand that God sees the heart and action of every person. Regardless of what another person has done, each individual will have to stand before God and answer to God why he had did what he did, or not do what he was supposed to do.
No action or motive can be completely hidden from God. He will hold every person accountable in the end. In knowing this, every true believer will work to choose to do the right thing every time. He will choose to strive to live the holy and righteous life as Jesus did, because he knows he has to answer to God in the end.
Whether you are living as the world or as Jesus did, God is watching you. He knows exactly everything that you are thinking and doing.
While it may feel as though you are getting away with something, there will come a day when God will ask you about every thought and action. God will hold you accountable.
Knowing this, choose today to obey every command of God. Choose to love and live as Jesus loved and lived. Do these things in your public life and in your private life behind closed doors. Be ready to give an account to God for your actions.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God is aware of your thoughts and actions; that you will live according to God’s word at all times; that you will live as Jesus lived; and that the world will see you are a follower of Jesus.
