Mark 9:4 Overcome The Unbelief

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:4

Belief in something is always an active, personal choice that has to be made. It is easy for people to find a reason not to believe in something.

In today’s internet world, it is common for articles to be written to cast doubt upon anything said or done. Pictures and words can be manipulated to cause questioning of the validity of what really occurred. For this reason many struggle to believe what they have not already personally experienced.

A man came with a demon possessed son to be healed by the disciples. When Jesus came, the father asked if He could heal his son. Jesus said anything is possible with belief, so the father asked for help with his unbelief.

It is common for people to go to those in the world first for help. When that fails and God shows up, they struggle with belief in God being able to do it or being willing to do what is needed. This translates into unbelief in God’s power and mercy.

Most believers believe that God can do something, but many also carry an unbelief that He won’t do anything. And often they stay there, not wanting to overcome the unbelief. They do not want to face the facts shown in scripture, but desire to hold on to their unbelief.

In order to please God, a person must have faith and believe in God. He must be willing to seek God’s help to overcome and destroy the unbelief in his heart.

This overcoming can occur when one takes note of all that God has already done in his life and in the lives of others. If God has done it before, He can do it again.

You may have a situation in your life that you need God’s supernatural intervention to resolve. You may be questioning God’s ability or mercy to do it.

Stop and take a moment to realize all that God has already done in the past. Remember all of the promises God has made. Then allow God to help you overcome your unbelief. Step out in faith knowing that God has the power and mercy to meet all of your needs according to His glorious grace and love.

God is waiting to do great things in and through you, but you must first believe for those things to occur. Overcome the unbelief.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will have faith in God and His abilities; that you will know what God can and is willing to do; and that you will see God at work in your life.

I love the simplicity of that statement Tom. I also marvel at the complexity of that statement when we practice it.
