Zechariah 12:5 Reason For Being Strong

Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.’ Zechariah 12:5

People find their strength in many different ways. Some are known to be strong in their ability to persuade others. Some are strong in their wealth or position.

Cities and nations often find their strength in their economy or their military. When the people are unified together, whether in a city, state or nation, they will usually be stronger. It is the common goal or view in some area that tends to make them stronger.

God talks of a future time when the people of Jerusalem will be strong. The reason given for why they will be strong is because they will allow God to be their God.

People in themselves are really often very weak. They give in to the pressure of those around them, wanting to please others, which gives the others more strength. It is in this way that many believers fall into sin, falling to the temptation to be like others.

When believers fall into sin, it breaks down their credibility and their witness. It is no longer God working in and through them, but they are trying to do things themselves on their own.

The difference is when a believer truly makes God his God, then he will have true strength and power to be God’s witness and turn away from sin. He will be able to stand up against the enemy and win the battles.

Believers who have allowed God to be their God, will be filled with His Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who will guide them and give them supernatural strength in the spiritual battles of this life.

You may find yourself struggling to win the battles against temptation to sin. The world is mounting attacks against you to break you down and destroy you, causing you to weaken and step into sin.

Although you may be there and are weak, you do not need to stay there. Turn to God and make Him your God. Allow God’s Spirit to guide and strengthen you to turn from sin and win the battles.

When God is your God, it is He who you allow to make all the choices and guide your steps. You will either serve the world and be weak, or serve God and be strong.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will make God your God; that you will allow God to guide you; and that you will walk in God’s power and strength.
