Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Proverbs 11:4
Seeking extreme wealth is the goal of many people. They feel that being wealthy is the greatest goal in life and that wealth will solve all their problems.
Having great wealth gives the appearance of security. When one has a lot of money, believe that they can purchase whatever they need, whenever they want.
While wealth can purchase a lot of things, it cannot purchase everything. It cannot purchase peace, joy, or the greatest need on this earth–life. Many wealthy people are lying on their deathbed with a sickness that cannot be cured. Many who are wealthy have ended their life out of depression or stress of striving to gain more wealth.
Solomon was the richest man who ever lived, yet he said that wealth was worthless in the end. It could not save during the day of wrath, nor could it purchase righteousness which delivers from death.
The thing people search for in wealth can only be found in the righteousness of Jesus. Jesus came to this earth to bring true life that every person is seeking. He wants to provide joy, peace, comfort, strength and eternal life. The very thing that every one who is seeking wealth desires.
Every person needs to seek the righteousness of Jesus in their lives. He is the one who brings about forgiveness of sins and gives eternal life. As a person is living in the righteousness of Jesus, he will have peace, comfort, security and eternal life, the very things that people seek in wealth.
On the day Jesus returns to judge the earth, all material wealth will be completely worthless. It will be unable to purchase forgiveness of sins. It will be unable to purchase righteousness before God. Only belief in Jesus can do those things.
Instead of seeking to gain more wealth in your life, strive to gain the righteousness of Jesus. Strive to be more righteous and holy as Jesus is.
In living in His righteousness and holiness, you will be able to stand on the day of judgement and wrath of God. His righteousness will deliver you from death and the wrath of God.
It is not your works, money or abilities that will save you, but the righteousness of Jesus. Make His righteousness the goal of your life. Seek His righteousness as much as some seek wealth and see what God can do in and through you.
I pray today that you will know the salvation that Jesus provides; that you will know the righteousness of Jesus; that you will strive to be holy as God is holy; and that you will seek God with all of your heart, soul and mind above everything else.
