Psalm 118:14 Strength And Defense

The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. Psalm 118:14

Finding strength to accomplish things is the goal of many people. They have a great dream or goal in life, but lack the strength to follow through with it or accomplish it.

Others will find the needed strength in their position or wealth. Often the self determination gives a person the strength to keep moving forward over all obstacles in life. Along with this giving strength, they will also use it as their defense.

People will defend their actions by their position or their own wisdom. Actions are often justified as being good because ‘everyone’ does it that way.

While all of this can help a person move a long way, they will eventually fail. Positions and wealth get removed. Defense arguments fall short of truth. Failure occurs.

In this psalm, the writer states that God is his strength and defense. It is God who provides salvation.

Having God for one’s strength is leaning upon Him for wisdom, direction and strength to accomplish what needs to be done. It is focusing on what Jesus had already went through to bring salvation. If Jesus went through what He did, then the believer can make it through the light and momentary struggles of this life.

The world will also strive to accuse the believer of wrong and sin, but the believer has the defense of what Jesus has done for him. Jesus had paid the price for all sins and removed the guilt. He now defends the believer when Satan and the world strive to accuse and condemn.

Things of this world can help a person for a short time, but they are only temporary and will fail in the end. Jesus has provided for salvation to the very end. By His Holy Spirit He gives strength to stand strong and true to God as a witness to this world.

As you are going through struggles in this life, focus your life on what God has done for you. Lean on Him for the needed strength. Look at what Jesus went through for you and know that He will bring you through every situation.

As the world and your mind work to accuse of you sin, remember as you repent that Jesus forgives you. Stand on the forgiveness that has already been provided.

God is ready to help you run and not grow weary on the path He has you on and He will protect your soul till the day you step into heaven.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the strength God has for you; that you will know the defense Jesus provides you; and that you will be His witness to this world.
