If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalm 91:9-10

Every person has a dream to be able to live with never having to fear harm or disaster. There are daily fears of harm for many people. They live in areas that people are under war and there is a daily threat of death. Others see and expect disaster on a regular basis.

Houses are covered with alarm systems to warn of any possible danger. People stock up on food and clothing to be covered in times of disaster. Fear runs high among people that they will not be able to survive a possible disaster that is coming.

The author of this psalm states that all one has to do is make God his refuge and he will never experience harm or disaster.

It does not take much for most people to look at these verses and question it. There are many people who have trusted in God and yet went through major problems or disasters in their life.

The challenge is in what is meant by disaster or harm. For most people if anything goes wrong in any way, it is disaster or harm.

While things happening like this may be painful, they are not real disasters or real harms. It is all a matter of perspective.

As a believer, one is under the protection of God. Under God’s protection nothing can happen that is not without purpose. God allows things to strengthen or change a believer, always with the purpose of building him up and bringing him closer to the image of Jesus.

With this in mind, nothing is really a disaster or harmful. Everything is a construction tool to build the believer up.

Think about what you believe is real disaster or harmful to you. The only things that are truly a disaster or harmful are those things that draw you away from God.

If you have your focus on God and make Him your refuge, your dwelling place, you will remain with Him. While you are with God, you are under His protection and control. You are to become more of what He wants you to become and less of what the world wants you to be.

Now you can see that what Satan has meant for harm, God uses for your good. No longer will harm or disaster overtake you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will dwell with God always; that you will trust His guidance in your life; and that God will show how He uses everything for your good.
