Ephesians 5:21 Yielding To Others

Yield to others

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21

Submission is the act of yielding to the desires or will of another person. It is allowing the other person the right of way. When driving down a road and a person comes to a yield sign, he must stop his own desire to move forward first and allow the other person to go through the intersection first. This does not matter how fast one wants to get through or not, the yield must occur.

Yielding is not something that people of the world really want to do. There is a rebellion that rises up in the individual to have his own way. Refusal to submit to another person is seen in the workplace, nation, and in the home. People fight against their government, their boss, their spouse, their parents and each other. Everyone wants to have their own way.

This was first started when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden by getting their own way of eating the fruit against God’s desires. They did not submit to the will of God. Since then people have been in rebellion against God.

Jesus is the perfect example of submission. He submitted His own will to the will of God. He also submitted Himself to the will of man when He allowed Himself to be placed upon the cross to die for every person.

Believers are not to live like the world anymore. They are to submit to each other as they submit to God. This is done out of reverence and worship to God.

Putting other people’s desires first, above one’s own desires, shows God’s love for others. Everything that a believer does is to be done out of love for God and for the other person.

Take a look at your own life and see how you at submission. It starts with submitting to God, putting God’s desires and will first above your own. In the process of submitting to God, you will then submit to others, putting others first in your life.

Life is not all about you. It is first of all about God and then it is about others, whether in the home, workplace, or nation. Allow others to have the upper hand and God will take care of you and your needs at all times. Do it out of worship for God.

I pray today that you will know what Jesus has done for you; that you will know the love God has for all people; that your life will be fully submitted to God; and that you will put others before yourself out of worship for God.
