Romans 13:14 What Clothes Are You Wearing?

choosing clothes

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:14

People are always trying to look like someone else. They watch an advertisement on tv and want to get that item so they may be like someone else. Many change their hair style to match some celebrity or to fit in with their friends. Or they will dress like their favorite person to be like that person.

As people are doing these things, they are thinking about how to satisfy their own selves. They want to feel as though they are the best or that they are not different from anyone else.

In the process of doing these things, many will often fall into doing things that are sinful. They want to please their self, so they are willing to do whatever it takes. Some will hear that sexual sins are pleasurable, so they will try it. Or they will hear that some other sinful act is fun and they will try it. They are seeking to gratify the sinful desires of their flesh.

When a person puts on a type of clothing that someone else is wearing, they are becoming like that person. They are beginning to look and act like the other person.

Every believer needs to do the same thing, only with Jesus. Believers need to strive to look like Jesus in every way possible.

The only way a person can look like Jesus is by doing and acting like Jesus. When a believer is doing this, it is no longer about self, but about Jesus and others. God becomes the first priority, not gratifying self with sinful acts that the flesh desires.

The clothes that Jesus wears are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, mercy, grace, and much more. When a believer is looking like Jesus, there will not be any time to look like the world, full of sin.

Do not spend time striving to look like the world or people of this world. Be different and look like Jesus. Spread His love, grace, mercy and salvation to others.

Take a look at your own life in a mirror. Who do you look like? Jesus or the world?

What are you trying to gratify? Self or God?

What clothes are you wearing today?

Jesus has the best wardrobe to wear.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will seek to be like Jesus; that your life will mirror that of Jesus; and that God will help remove the desires of your flesh in your life.

  1. The garment, fashion, fitness and beauty industries thrive on keeping us unsatisfied with how we look. Is it “wrong” to want to “look-good”? No, but we shouldn’t be obsessed with it. I got a haircut recently, and now I project a different “image”. That was the first haircut I had gotten in almost three years. Ponytail is gone, and many people say I look ten years younger, but I didn’t get a haircut to please others.

    1. Well said. Looking good is not bad, we just can’t be obsessed with it. We are told to take care of our bodies because they are the temple of God. It is also showing respect to God’s temple to care for your body. Thank you for reading and the great insight on looking good.
