John 10:37 Do Not Believe, Unless…

“Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.” John 10:37

Several opponents of Jesus came up to Him with stones to stone Him. They were ready to stone Him because of blasphemy. Jesus had been saying that He was one with God the Father, that He was God. Jesus told them not to believe Him unless He was doing the works of His Father.

All over the world, there are many things or people who want others to believe in. Politicians want people to believe that they will do what is best for them. Salesmen want people to believe that their product is the best for them. Actors and singers want people to believe that their performance is the best. Parents want their children to believe that they are making the best choices for them. Believers want people to believe them that Jesus is the Savior and God loves them.

The challenge for people is knowing who to believe and who not to believe.

While there are many who are being honest in this world about who they are and what they are trying to get others to believe in, there are many who are not speaking the truth. Being dishonest, yet looking good, is how thieves work, or kidnappers work.

In order to know if a person is being honest and can be believed, one must look at his life and see if it lines up with His words.

Jesus understood this concept and told the people that they must look to see if what He was saying and doing was lining up with what God was saying and doing. If He was doing the works of God, then He was to be believed. If He was not doing the works of God, then He was not to be believed.

The same principle applies today. When you hear someone speaking about God, look to see if it lines up with what the bible says. Look to see if his life is lining up with the life of Jesus. Believe what is said only if it lines up with God’s word.

At the same time, take a look at your own life and see if it lines up with what God’s word says. Are you doing the works of God or are you doing the works of man?

Don’t just believe, but believe when it follows God’s word.

I pray today that you will know God’s word in your life; that God will reveal Himself to you; that you will believe because you see God at work; and that your life will line up to God’s word so others may believe.
