Dressed and ready

Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, Luke 12:35

Jesus is teaching the crowds about various topics. He had just finished telling them not to worry about anything. Now He tells them to be dressed ready for service and to keep their lamps burning. They are to be servants that the master can leave alone, knowing that they will do what they are supposed to do and not slack off on the job.

Everyday millions of people get up and get ready to go to work. Each one may start at different times of the day or night, but each do very similar things to get ready.

Each person must get up and get dressed for work. Depending upon what type of workplace a person works in, depends on what he wears. The person working in an office may have to wear a suit and tie, while the construction worker wears steel-toed boots and jeans.

Along with being dressed, each person must be willing to work. They have to remember what they need to do and how to do it. They need to do their best on the job, with a positive attitude to get the best possible pay raises.

Not everyone goes to work in this way. Some refuse to dress for the position. Others have a poor attitude or try to slack off on getting the work done correctly. They are not ready to work.

Believers have to also get dressed and be ready to be a worker for God with the correct attitude.

It is not the outward clothing that a believer must be dressed with. It is the characteristics of Jesus and His righteousness that a person must be clothed with. He must have compassion, love, truth, faithfulness, whole hearted, and more. Anything that makes him look like Jesus is clothing that is important.

He must also keep the lamp burning. Be filled with God’s Holy Spirit, ready to serve God and others. Walk and work in His power and might. Be excited about sharing the gospel message. Know that God is faithful.

These are things that you, as a believer, must have on to be ready for service each day. Look at your life in a mirror and see if you look like Jesus.

Are you dressed with the righteousness of Jesus?

Is your lamp light and shining bright in this world?

I pray today that you will be dressed like Jesus; that you will be ready to serve God and others; that you will do the work God has called you to do; and that you will be a witness to this world of Jesus.
