Isaiah 27:2-3 God Watches His Vineyard

In that day–Sing about a fruitful vineyard: I; the LORD, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it. Isaiah 27:2-3

Israel had chosen to turn away from God and follow other gods. Since they chose that path, God had chosen to punish them for a time. He sent them into exile and crushed their city and nation.

Unlike, with many of the nations, God did not totally annihilate the Israelites. He kept a remnant alive to rebuild the nation again. In this passage God calls that remnant a vineyard. It is God who is watching over that vineyard and causing it to be fruitful. God cares for it and manages it day and night, feeding and protecting His vineyard.

Today some may say that is good for Israel, but does not affect themselves because they are not Israelites.

Vineyards are fields for growing grapes and grapes grow on vines. Jesus stated that He is the vine and you, the believer, are the branches. Although you may not be an Israelite, though some of you may be, He grafted you into the vine. Just as God cared for Israel and for Jesus, God is caring for you.

Every believer in Jesus is a part of God’s great vineyard. God has cared for you by providing forgiveness of sins. He has given you His Word, the Bible, to know who He is and what He wants. When Jesus left the earth, He sent His Holy Spirit to be with you and guide you in this life.

God wants you to grow and be fruitful in this life. A fruitful grapevine will produce more branches and more grapes. If a branch only produces a branch and nothing else, it is not considered fruitful and will be cut off.

As a believer in Jesus, being fruitful means you will be producing other believers. You will be a witness of who Jesus is and living in a way that will draw people to Jesus. This is the process of producing more branches and more grapes.

As you are doing this work for God, God is watching over you, feeding you and protecting you from all harm. The world will not be able to stop you from doing the work He has called you to do.

How are you doing in God’s vineyard today?

I pray today that you will be a part of God’s vineyard; that you will be fruitful for God; that you will eat the food God has for you; and that you will know God’s protection in your life.
