Ecclesiastes 10:18 Results Of Laziness

Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks. Ecclesiastes 10:18

When a person rents a house, they do not have to worry about all of these repairs and upkeep. The owner of the house is the one responsible. All a renter must do is report the problem.

However, owning a home does not work the same, it takes work. It is not just purchase the house and live in it. One must continually work at keeping it up. Repainting the walls, replacing broken windows, repairing holes, fixing leaky faucets, and the list goes on.

Often people will just live in it and not do any upkeep on the house. They will leave minor faults alone. Over time the minor things become larger problems. The walls start cracking more, the roof leaks, walls get infested with termites, and, again, the list goes on. The cost of repairs rises rapidly when a person does not do regular maintenance on the house.

Life works in the same way as a house. Every believer is called the temple of God. As the temple you are the house of God. You are where God resides.

Your house–life, must be kept in good repair. There will be times when things will break down in your life. This is not the physical things of your life, but your spiritual, emotional part of your life.

Regretfully there will be times when you allow yourself to step into sin. Your mind will go down a path it should not go. You may say something you should not have said.

As these things occur, they are warning signs to you of a greater danger. That greater danger is walking away from God, closing your ears off to hearing God’s Holy Spirit attempting to guide you. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. If you ignore Him long enough, you will no longer hear Him.

It takes work to stay in tune with God’s Holy Spirit. You must daily study the Bible to see what God has to say to you. You must daily talk with God in prayer. You must daily allow God to have full control of your life.

These are things that will not occur automatically, you must focus on doing them. If you do not, you are being lazy in your spiritual walk with God. When that happens your rafters will sag and the house will begin to leak.

I pray today that you will open your ears to hear the Holy Spirit; that you will work at staying in tune with God; that you will not be lazy in your walk with God; and that you will be more like Jesus each day.
