Psalm 89:1 Sing And Tell

I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. Psalm 89:1

There are many movies that show a man or woman who has just fallen deeply in love with someone. As they have fallen in love, they break out in song singing about that love. Then they start to tell everyone about that new-found love.

One classic movie that shows this is found in “My Fair Lady,” when Eliza sings the song “I Could Have Danced All Night.” She has fallen in love with Professor Higgins and sings late into the night, loudly, letting all the servants know what she is feeling. There is no shame or fear in her words.

Not everyone actually sings in public when they fall in love with someone, but in their hearts they are singing. Many will sing in private, but all will tell others about their new-found love.

The author of this psalm is singing about God’s love. He has discovered a love that passes all other loves. He has also learned of God’s great faithfulness and wants to tell everyone about it.

Every  believer has learned of God’s love and faithfulness. It is those very things that draws a person to God.

In your own life you had to have experienced some of God’s love for you to have become a believers. Think about how great God’s love is for you. You deserved nothing but painful punishment and death, yet God forgave you and gave you abundant life.

Along with that love, you have learned of His faithfulness. God has met needs of yours. He has answered many of your prayers. He has never failed to be by your side and meet every need you have, not necessarily every wish, but the needs.

With these things in mind, you should be more than willing to break out in a love song to God. You should also be willing to tell others about His faithfulness and love. Do not be ashamed.

Think of a time when you were in love with someone. How did you act? What did you do?

In that same way act and do even more so for God. Sing and tell others about God today.

I pray today that you will know God’s great love for you; that you will see God’s faithfulness; that you will not be ashamed of God; and that you will tell the world about God.

Psalm 86:11 An Undivided Heart

Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11

It is common and often accepted practice for a person to change loyalties to someone or something. People commonly do not stick with a person through thick and thin, through the good times and the bad times.

Along with changes of the good and bad times, many change who they choose to follow. For a short time they follow one person, then they suddenly change to follow someone else. They have a divided heart.

This same type of action can occur among people who are in the church. For a while they follow God with all their heart, then suddenly they choose to walk away and follow someone else. It is often seen as a matter of convenience. What is the best comfort at the moment is often asked, and then pursued.

People with divided hearts will go to church on Sunday and worship with all of their heart. Then on Monday, while at work, completely follow the ways of this world, lying, cheating, cursing, condemning, hating, getting revenge, and whatever other sin comes their way.

Jesus wants His people to be either hot or cold, but not lukewarm. Being lukewarm is having a divided heart. It is choosing God when it is comfortable and convenient, and choosing the world when it is not comfortable and convenient.

The only way you can have an undivided heart is to know God’s ways. You must know how God acts and speaks at all times. This will then help you to rely on His faithfulness. You will know in your heart that you can trust in God.

As you know that you can trust in God, you will give up the divided heart. You will fear God and God alone. You will no longer be concerned with what the world is saying because you will know that you are doing what God wants.

Where does your loyalty lie? Is it with God or with this world?

If your heart is divided between God and this world, it is set with this world. God is not in your heart if it is divided.

Allow God to change your heart by teaching you His ways. Have an undivided heart that is loyal to God and Him alone.

I pray today that you will know God’s ways; that you will know God’s faithfulness; that you will be loyal to God; that your heart will not be divided; and that you will serve God with all of your life.

Psalm 85:6-7 Revive Us Again

Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation. Psalm 85:6-7

When a person passes out, that person is as though he is dead. He is unable to do anything at all, and appears to be dead. In order for him to do anything again, he must be revived, brought back to consciousness.

The same thing occurs when a person has a heart attack and his heart stops beating. In reality the person has died and needs to be revived in order to live again.

Being dead does not do any good for a person in this life. He cannot do, think or say anything to or for anyone in this world. His life is over.

Many people in this world are living in this very way. They are alive physically, but are very dead spiritually. While most have never been alive spiritually, there are many who have been.

Throughout the churches around the world, there are people who had come to Jesus for salvation. They were excited for a time and followed God with excitement.

Somewhere along the path of life, something made them give up the spiritual life. They died spiritually. There is no more excitement about going to church, or worshipping, or praying, or reading God’s Word, or telling others about Jesus. In reality they are dead and need to be revived.

Unlike many people in this world, God is right there ready to revive His people. He wants His people to be alive and living for Him. God’s love will never fail to love everyone, no matter if they spiritually died again or were never alive spiritually. God wants to give everyone His salvation.

Take a look at your own life. Are you alive or dead to God?

To determine which you are, think about what excites you. Are you rejoicing in God throughout your day?

Or is God just a quick passing thought on Sunday, because that is just what you do on Sunday?

You can be going through all the motions, but still be dead. Allow God to enter your life and make you alive. Find the joy of His salvation. Rejoice in what God is doing in your life.

Allow God to revive you.

I pray today that God will revive you; that you will rejoice in God’s salvation; that you will live for God each day; that you will know the love and salvation of God; and that you will be a witness to this world of Jesus.

Psalm 84:10 The Best Place

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. Psalm 84:10

There are many places that people would rather be during the days and weeks of their life. People look forward to the weekends when they are at work, so that they can be at home, or out fishing, or relaxing, anywhere but at work. Students in school look forward to the final bell to go home and dream about summer vacation all school year.

The location that people love to be is different for each person, but every person has a place they love or would love to go and see. It is rare to find a person that does not have a favorite place to rather be at than where he is currently at.

Believers should have a different look on locations. The view of every believer should not be at the temporary locations on this earth. It is good to be with family at home, or out on some vacation, or maybe somewhere else, but there is a better place to be than all of those places.

That location is in God’s dwelling place. It is in the presence of God.

There is nothing better than spending time with God. It is something that you can do when you are alone or with a group of people. Jesus had said that where ever two or three are gathered, He would be there. The location is not a physical place, but being in the presence of God. God dwells in the hearts of His people, the believers in Jesus.

To get into His presence, means you must shut out the cares and distractions of this world. Spend time reading and studying His Word. Spend time in pray. Take the time to get to know God, speaking to Him and listening to Him.

In the presence of God there is peace, comfort, love, hope, and joy. When you have all of those things, what more could you ever want?

Are you spending time in God’s presence?

Is being in the presence of God the best location you believe you could ever be?

I pray today that you will know God and His presence in your life; that you will desire to be where God is; that you will not be distracted by this world’s locations; and that you will know the joy and blessing of God’s presence.

Psalm 84:5 Just Traveling Through

Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. Psalm 84:5

Traveling a short distance, less than one-hundred miles, is something that is relatively easy to do. Going a thousand miles or more, is more challenging. Traveling across country, over the ocean to another country, takes a good amount of planning.

Going that kind of distance takes a dedication to see it through. Even though today, a person can fly nearly anywhere in the world and be there within one day, it still takes good planning to do so.

During the times when this psalm was written, everyone traveled on foot or camel back. The process of traveling was very slow. Just traveling across the nation of Israel was a three to four-day trip, if not longer. A person had to have his heart set on making that pilgrimage.

Although physical travel has become much easier, there is a pilgrimage that people must make that takes time and focus. That pilgrimage is the journey through this life. The world is seeking to make themselves better and have all that they want in peace and comfort. It is a journey that they will never complete.

Believers in Jesus, however, also are on a pilgrimage through this life. They are on the journey to become more like Jesus. They are focused on doing what God wants and when He wants it.

Just as a traveler on the road faces various challenges when going down the road, so will every believer in his walk with Jesus. There will be potholes in the road, detours, accidents, and bad weather as well as smooth traveling on this journey in life.

These challenges for a believer are found in persecution, ridicule, fear, illness, death, pain, as well as victory and joy.

The only way to complete the journey is to stay focused on completing it. Do not allow yourself to be turned aside and quit the journey. As you set your heart on the journey God has given you, He will give you the needed strength to complete it.

You are just traveling through this life to get to eternity with God. Don’t stop now, but finish the journey. It will be worth it in the end.

I pray today that God will reveal His path for you; that God will strengthen you for the journey; that you will find joy in your journey; that you will see progress in your journey with God; and that you will finish the journey God has you on.

Psalm 81:6 A Removed Burden

I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. Psalm 81:6

The psalmist, Asaph, looked back on when Israel had been delivered from Egypt. While in Egypt, they had been under the heavy burden of slavery. They were not allowed to make their own decisions or live their lives the way they wanted too. It was a heavy burden to bear living like that, but God had removed that burden in the deliverance.

Although the Israelites had to deal with many different difficulties while enslaved in Egypt, Asaph lists everything as one burden. That one burden was slavery.

Although slavery of human beings by another person is still found in different parts of the world, this is a different type of slavery. Not every person is enslaved to another person against his will, as the Israelites were in Egypt.

There is one burden that every person is enslaved to, unless they have been set free. That burden is sin.

From the time of birth every person is enslaved with the burden of sin. It is a bondage that no person can escape from on his own. Someone else has to come in and break the chains of that bondage.

Many people will try to say that they are not in bondage to anyone or anything. Yet, they are unable to stop doing certain things, whether they are actions, words, or thoughts.

Think about your own life. What are some bad habits that you have in your life? Or what are some sins that you seem to do over and over?

These are the things you are enslaved to. These are the things you are in bondage to and cannot break free from on your own.

Just as God had broken the bondage of slavery off of the shoulders of the Israelites, God can break the bondages of sin off your shoulders.

Jesus is willing to forgive you of your sins, if you allow Him to and you repent. Then allow Him to take that bondage and toss it out. Do not pick up the chains of bondage to sin anymore. Be free. Keep your hands, mind and body free from the slavery of sin. Live for God.

I pray today that you will know the freedom Jesus has for you; that you will seek forgiveness of sins; that God will strengthen you to stay away from sin; and that you will live for God in every way possible in this life.

Psalm 78:4 Get The Word Out

We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. Psalm 78:4

Whenever there is exciting news, people want to let everyone know. Whether the news is good or bad news, if it is something seen as big news, people want to tell everyone about it.

All over social media people talk about some event that occurred in the news. Some of those things discussed are good things, many are tragic events. Every time there is a major sports game going on, people are discussing the various plays and who won, and who should have done something different. The news is being sent out all over the nation.

Parents who have a new-born baby are excited and want to tell everyone about the new child. They take a hundred pictures and show every relative, friend, co-worker and more. They are proud of the baby and think everyone should know.

Most people feel that their life is just simple, no thrills, boring with nothing to be talked about. So they want to talk about what is happening in the world or to others.

As a believer, you have some exciting news to tell. Your life is not just simple, boring with no thrills. It is one that is filled with God. Jesus is the greatest news that anyone could talk about on this earth of all time.

Jesus has provided you and everyone salvation. In the process of providing that salvation, God has done many great wonders in your life, and in the lives of others. This information must be told to others. Tell everyone you know what you know about God and what He has done in your life.

How has God provided for you?

How has God healed you?

What has God done for you?

What has God done in you?

What have you seen God doing in and for others?

As excited as the world may be about some great news event in this world, you should be more excited about getting the word out about who God is and what He is doing.

What are you sharing and talking about today?

I pray today that you realize what God is doing in your life; that you will not fear talking about God to everyone; that you will tell the world what great things God is doing and has done; and that you will be a shining light in this world for Jesus.
