Psalm 33:1 It Is Right To Sing

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Psalm 33:1

Opening this psalm up, the psalmist immediately says that every believer should sing joyfully praise to God. Throughout the rest of the psalm, he gives reasons as to why God should be praised.

When people are going through tough times, it can be difficult to be joyful. It is often hard to find reasons to sing praise to God. Many feel as though they were abandoned by God. Others may feel unworthy to give praise to God, because of past sin.

It is common for people want to have a reason to be joyful and to sing praise to God. Reading the rest of this psalm, a person is given reasons to sing praise.

Verse four states that God’s word is true and God is faithful. Verse five says that the earth if full of His unfailing love. Verse six says that everything was made by God. Verse 10 states that God is in absolute control. Verse nineteen says that God is watching.

These are just a few of the reasons that a believer should praise God. At the time this was written, the author was under the Law, there was no redemption. Jesus had not yet died and rose from the dead to pay for all sin. If the psalmist, under the judging, condemning Law, can praise God, how much more should believers today praise Him?

It is the right thing to do, to praise God with a joyful heart. Your praise should not be based on circumstances in your life. It should be based on who God is and your position with Him. The circumstances in this life will change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. You cannot rely on the circumstances for joy.

God will never change. You can always trust Him. When you look at everything that God has done for you, and the things He did not do to you (that you deserve), it is only right for you to sing with extreme joy praises to God.

Don’t just go through the motions of singing praise on Sunday only, but throughout each day of the week. Give God the praise for all that He has done and is doing today. It is only the right thing to do. It is the only right thing to do.

I pray today that God will fill your heart with His peace and joy; that you will know what God has done for you; that you will have a song of praise on your lips; and that you will sing with joy praise to God all day long.
