Psalm 9:1 Giving And Telling

I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. Psalm 9:1

In this Psalm, David tells how God had pushed back his enemies. He is now giving God thanks for everything He has done. Not only is David giving thanks, he is going around telling every one of what God has done.

Parents teach children to say thank you to someone who has given them something. As adults, many people forget about that part of their early training. Some things are given just automatically and so people tend to not say thank you.

An example of that is when a person purchases an item in a store. When the cashier gives the change to the person that was due, many do not say thank you. It is often looked at as something that was required by the cashier and no thanks is needed. Although it is required, it is still polite to recognize the person.

God is giving people many things all the time. He is doing millions of good and wonderful deeds for each and every person, each and every moment. The air that is provided to breath is a good deed that God has done for each and every person. How many give thanks for it?

David was overflowing in his heart with thanks to God for what He had done. Then he went out and told everyone he knew about what God had done.

Today, take a moment to think about all the good things God has done in your life. This does not have to occur just on Thanksgiving Day. The list, if you really thing about it, will go on forever. Now start thanking God for those things. Then go out and start telling others what God has done.

As you tell others what God has done for you, it will encourage them in their walk with the Lord. It will also draw those in the world to want to know more about Jesus and this wonderful God you serve and talk about. You will be fulfilling the great commission that Jesus gave you and every other believer.

What are you thankful for today?

What are you telling other people?

I pray today that you will know what God has done for you; that you will give thanks for what God has done; that you will tell others what God has done; and that your heart will be filled with His joy.

  1. Amen! Reminds me of one of my new favorite worship songs, “Great Are You, LORD” by All Your Sons and Daughters. “It’s Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise . . . to You only”. Thanks for this reminder!
