Psalm 1:2 Where Is Your Delight?

but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. Psalm 1:2

The book of Psalms opens up stating who the blessed person is. That person is one who has great joy in studying and knowing God’s Word. He thinks about it all the time.

People find enjoyment in a lot of different things. Some find it in their career, they enjoy what they do and look forward to doing it each day. Others find it in things that they have, such as a special car, or house. Many find their enjoyment in different hobbies, such as sports, sewing, crafts, hunting, fishing, journaling, and the list goes on. A few find their joy in their family and their children.

Although there is nothing wrong with any of these enjoyments, all of them have one thing in common. All of these things are temporary. They are only here for a while on this earth. They will not last eternity or follow someone after death.

The Law is a part of God’s Word. John wrote that the Word was God from the beginning.

In order for a person to get to know God, he must be willing to know His Word. The Bible is God’s method to tell people who He is and what He wants.

During the time the Psalms was written, the Word/Bible consisted of the Law. A believer in God had to know the law very well in order to know God.

After Jesus died, rose again and went into heaven, God allowed His Word to expand. The Bible now tells the rest of the story of God’s plan for all people.

As a believer, you must have a desire to know God. Your life should be focused first on knowing God as well as you can. This comes from knowing His Word.

Do you find enjoyment in reading the Bible? Or is it a drudgery, something you have to do? Or do you even open the Bible?

Many do not read the Bible at all. Then they wonder why they have no joy in their life. Read the Bible. Think about what it says at all times. Do not just read it, but apply it to your life.

In the Bible you will find life. Make it the delight of your life.

I pray today that God will make His Word come alive in your life; that you will find joy in studying His Word; that you will remember what is in the Bible; and that you will apply what you learn in your life.
