Job 9:33-34 Mediator Needed

If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together, someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Job 9:33-34

Job feels that he is completely innocent of any wrong-doing. He sees all the trouble that he is going through as punishment by God, and he does not understand it. Job wants to talk to God about it, but feels he cannot stand before God, and so he desires to have someone be a mediator between the two of them.

When there is a dispute between two nations there is usually another nation that stands between them to mediate the talks. The third nation is a neutral nation who is seeking to bring peace between the other two. This one is innocent of anything wrong in the given situation. Sometimes that mediation works, while at other times it fails.

The same type of mediation can occur between two people, or groups of people in a disagreement. Married couples often go to a pastor for mediation in their marriage to solve marital problems.

At the time Job walked on the earth, men did not have direct access to God. People had to go to a priest to get to God. There was no mediator to stand in for him and fight his case.

Today, every believer has a mediator between them and God. That mediator is Jesus.

God is not looking for ways to destroy you. He does not want to convict you of sin, though you are guilty of sin. What God wants is to save you from your sins, to remove your guilt.

He provided for the removal of your sins by having Jesus die as a ransom for your sins. Jesus is the one who stands between you and God. He is the One who allows you to have direct access to God for any and every situation in your life.

Jesus is on your side, just as He is also on God’s side. Jesus wants to build you up and make a way for you to be with God for all eternity.

Will you accept His mediation for you?

Or will you reject it and incur the wrath of God?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust Jesus as your mediator; that you will go before God with all of your needs; and that you will live for God in every way.
