Job 1:12 Only With Permission

The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD. Job 1:12

While in a meeting in heaven, God bragged to Satan about Job being an upright and righteous man who served Him. Satan points out that Job served God only because God protected him and made him wealthy. God then gives Satan permission to touch anything Job has, but he cannot touch Job himself.

The bad characters in movies are almost always portrayed as almost as powerful as the good guy, and sometimes even more powerful. This is even seen in the real world. Bad guys, or groups of people are often seen as just as powerful as any other good group. It is rare for people to see how other people have their power.

In the spiritual realm, many believe that Satan is almost as powerful as God and can do anything he wants. This is believed by the world and by many believers. Believers see the sin that Satan has brought into this world, and the suffering believers have to go through and think he has real power.

Many believers live in fear of Satan because they think he is very powerful and in control. It is true that Satan wants to destroy you, but it also true that he can only touch you with God’s permission. There will be times when God does give Satan permission to do things, but it is only with boundaries. The reality of Satan’s power is that he can only do what God allows him to do.

God may allow Satan, or the world, to take everything you own, because He knows your trust is not in the things you have, but in Him. As with Job, God may know that you will not deny Him when troubles come because of Satan or this world. At that point God may allow Satan to try to trip you up.

Your trust needs to be in God and His power. He is the One who is in absolute control of everything. Satan has no real power. All that he has is what God has allowed him to have.

Do not fear Satan. Trust God and know that He is on your side today.

I pray today that you will know God’s power in your life; that you will trust God’s protection of you; that you will not fear this world; and that your heart will be true to God.
