Exodus 16:19-20 Daily Provision

“Then Moses said to them, No one is to keep any of it until morning. However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. So Moses was angry with them.” Exodus 16:19-20

As the Israelites were traveling in the wilderness they needed food. After grumbling to Moses about not having any food, God had manna poured out on the ground during the night. The instructions were given to gather a certain amount and not keep any overnight. Needless to say, there were some who did not follow the directions and in the morning the manna was full of maggots and smelled bad.

God was willing to provide food for the people. The only thing that they had to do was gather it each morning and cook it. The one thing that they were not supposed to do was store it up for the next day.

When you start to store things up for the next day or for a future day, you are taking away from God’s ability to provide for you in a miraculous way. It also opens the door for that item to go bad or be taken away from you.

People put a lot of money in bank accounts or some other type of retirement account for the future. Yet, how many times has that money gone “bad”? The stock market crashes, the economy crashes, or some other event occurs that devalues the money quickly, leaving very little to nothing.

Before you set aside some money, or anything else, for another day in the future, you must ask God about doing it. What does God want you to do?

Often God gives you things and money to not only help you, but also to help someone else or His work to get done. Jesus said that believers are to be generous, giving people.

Trust God for all of your provisions. Don’t try to hoard it to yourself and provide for yourself. You do not see the big picture as God does. Seek His guidance and you will have all that you need, though at the end of the night you may not see the provision for tomorrow yet. God will always provide your daily need.

I pray today that you will trust God for all your needs; that you will not fear tomorrow’s needs; that you will not strive to provide for yourself out of fear; and that you will be generous to others.
